Showcase Cinemas

Hyde Rd, Manchester M12 5AL, UK – 0871 220 1000

This has been my cinema of choice for years. I don't know how it has managed to survive though as hardly anyone goes there. This is good as far as I'm concerned because you can park for free a few yards from the doors and we've had the auditorium to ourselves on a number of occasions. Even the latest blockbusters might have only a handful of people watching. Food and drinks are expensive so you'd be wise to take your own. That goes for any cinema though. Get an Insider card and there are various special offers to take advantage of.

Lovely quiet and a cinema all you can ask for and more people should show it some love. I visited by myself as my wife didn't want to see the move I went to see and was supposed how empty it was. The foods are expensive but that's a cinima for you but I was supposed at the selection and portions as there amazing. 100% worth a visit if your looking for less people talking and a more personal experiance.

ODEON Manchester Great Northern

235 Deansgate, Manchester M3 4EN, UK – 0333 014 4501

Love this cinema, can be busy for big releases but most of the time it's nice and chilled. If your a big film fan then Odeon limitless is awesome, as many films as you want for £17.99/pm. Staff are nice, it's clean, foods nice. Prices for tickets are really good as well compared to other places.

Loved the AMC was cheap and amazing value. Now it's odeon (basically same company) they have kept the great low price of £4.99 any day any adult person. Best is the add £2 to my popcorn and get 3 toppings

Theatres for Manchester

HOME, Manchester

2, Tony Wilson Place, Manchester M15 4FN, UK – 0161 200 1500

Service is generally good and the ambience very nice, but the food is a mixed bag. Baked cod was flavoursome but the HOME fish and chips came with overcooked frozen chips. The fish and home made Tartar sauce were good, so it's a shame they fell down on something so crucial. Another time we had an overly sugary cottage pie (or similar) and stale dough balls. So there are elements that are good but lack of consistency and attention to rather important details that lets the food offering down.

HOME offers the alternative cinema and arts experience you might not know you want yet. Although the cinema screens are small, the intimate nature of the rooms lends itself well to certain film types. Just don't be surprised if the person behind you sounds like your grandma when your watching a film "ooh he's a baddy him". The bar is well staffed and you can take a drink into the screenings with prices at a very reasonable rate. HOME is not and never was a secret, but it still feels like one.

Palace Theatre

97 Oxford St, Manchester M1 6FT, UK – 0844 871 3019

Lovely tradition / glamorous theatre putting on great shows in Manchester city centre. Staff are always friendly and helpful. We've sat in the circle and gallery on several occasions and always been happy with the view and sound. The seats could do with a bit more padding and can get a bit uncomfortable for a long show. Also the gallery is very steep and leg room is a bit more limited. Drinks and snacks are the usual expensive price for this kind of venue and due to its location parking can be expensive too.

Husband and I went to see flash dance yesterday. We sat in the grand tier. Well I say sat, husband had to dangle his legs over the seats in front as there was no room for his size 12 feet to fit comfortably in front of him. Thankfully no one was seated in front of him, otherwise his knees would have pinned the person's head in place. I being a larger lady had to be prized out of my seat. We had failed to see the tiniest print on the tickets related to the seat restrictions. Whilst the performance was incredible we failed to see a portion of it as the scenes took place high up on a staircase which meant that those seated in the grand tier could not see what was occurring on the stage. This is not acceptable as there was no reference to the seats being restricted view and a lack of attention to the set arrangement for those seated on high. Be aware when booking your tickets. Lose some weight, get tranquillised, for it is very high, wear suitable footwear, chop your feet off and imagine afore hand whether you think a dancing show will involve some high scenes. Never see a circus there or trapeze artists.
