Urban Exchange, Great Ancoats St, Manchester M4 6DE, UK – 0344 387 6829
A one stop shop for a range of outdoor materials, from footwear to clothing to a good range of tents, also camping accessories, and tools for the outdoors, and a good range of hats, and the membership card enables a good reduction in displayed prices, there is also a monthly newsletter with current offers, not forgetting the shop downstairs which has a good range of bicycles at reasonable prices, plus a range of accessories, there is no cafe unfortunately, and the outdoor centre is a bit of a walk out of Manchester centre.
There is a discount card scheme here. It's £5 for a discount card which makes you entitled to all the sales and offers in store. You can also price match and reserve items in store from the website. Without the card you pay full RRP which can be a big difference. They sell equestrian, climbing, cycling, hiking, camping, running and caravan gear. The staff are super friendly and usually know the technical aspects of the products.

Nice layout with a really good variety of stock. Staff were welcoming and approachable, but not overbearing. Would recommend checking this shop out, but do try clothes on before buying as the sizes are a little generous
Fantastic shop, local staff/knowledge, very helpful with returns/exchanges!

Staff really helpful and friendly. They don't rush you and plenty of choice

Always worth checking by phone if you are coming in for something specific, even if the website says they have it in stock. Some very helpful staff members. Focus more on clothing rather than kit but I guess it is a city centre store.
Like all outdoor shops, it can't quite decide whether it's a shop for trendy, active clothes or a shop specialising in outdoor gear. It tends more to clothing than I would like but it probably isn't financially viable as a completely outdoor shop in that location. The staff are helpful when choosing and fitting walking boots.

The staff really make this place. I've been picking up different parts of gear over the past months, one staff member in particular has gone that extra mile and been 100% honest about the products. Some items are priced highly however the staff make up for this.
Best seer I've I have ever had in any store!! Staff are so lovely and really knowledgeable. Got fantastic advice and despite having to try several pies of boots at home they were patient and never let on that I was one of those "awkward" customers!! Cannot recommend enough!!!

Blacks has a good selection of brands. The higher end brands are quite expensive so best bought in the sales or click and collect online. The other brands are ok and cheap and cheerful. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Although sometimes there aren't enough staff downstairs when it's busy.
Bought some shoes on the sale. Great prices. Good quality gear. Stuff very knowledgeable and helpful.
